The Drone Lab is a 4 voice analog drone synth, rhythm generator and FX processor. It is capable of generating rich, textured soundscapes, hypnotic drones and complex rhythmic sequences. It features a series of filter and distortions circuits as well as an audio input jack. Through this workshop/classroom formatted seminar, attendees will learn how to design, adapt and build sound circuits of their own while building a complete Drone Lab to take home. The Drone Lab was designed to invite modification and expansion, so we will experiment with and develop it further. Students will learn through a combination of informative presentations and intensive hands on experience.

Topics will include: Drone Lab theory. What it is, how it works and how to apply the building blocks of the Drone Lab to other designs. Basic soldering and assembly (never built a kit before? Don’t worry, we’ll teach you how!) Circuit and PCB design. Circuit adaptation and modification. A variety of simple example circuits will be provided. Parts and tools. What to buy and where to buy it at the best price.

The focus of the presentations will be on small scale production but we are happy to also talk about our experience of taking ideas from concept to market for those who are interested.
