[Oct 2 – Oct 31] AttoWatt by George Moraitis

AttoWatt is an installation, made up of long vertical metal bars and neon tubes.

The neon lights are individually triggered to create vivid patterns of light. Every minute, the audience is able to see volumes made of lights in movement in the centre of the installation. Light and sound are travelling from rung to rung simultaneously from each piece all around the installation with fast velocity creating various forms made of electricity within space.

AttoWatt is an installation, made up of long vertical metal bars and neon tubes.

Each bar is a vertical set of rungs made of neon tubes forming the shape of a ladder. The neon lights generate sound by producing sound waves in a broad range of frequencies, just as it produces light.

In “AttoWatt” installation, light and sound are regarded as an energetic phenomenon, surrounding the audience, as it enacts energetic transformations through its movements, which resonate with them.

My artistic approach focuses on the realm between sound sculpture, audiovisual installations, two-dimensional works and performance.

My work incorporates sound and found objects which are often accompanied by drawings, screen prints, video, photography and computer-controlled interactive installations in which sound is utilised as a primary medium.

My great interest in sound focuses on acoustic and psychoacoustic themes as well as themes related to the body, sculpture and video, as a mixture of peculiarities of perception, technology and materials.

My multi-layered installations and performances have been presented at venues across Europe, including Reina Sofia Museum, Documenta 14, Goethe Institut, Οnassis Cultural Centre, Biennale Némo in Paris, Stavros Niarchos Foundation and St. Mary’s Cathedral Glasgow.

Truly revolutionary music is not music which expresses the revolution in words, but which speaks of it as a lack.

The sounds of a society are in advance of its images and material conflicts. Music foretells our future. Let us lend it an ear.
