Immersive Art and Technology Initiative

Join our Experience Lab on Saturdays from 1-3pm in our Art and Technology Program Building 10a, Nolan Park, Governor’s Island. Our series of workshops presents hands-on learning and creative play with technology including VR, AR, Mixed Reality and Web VR. FREE. This project is made possible with funds from the NYSCA in Partnership with Wave Farm: Immersive Art & Technology Initiative, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

Workshop

SATURDAY SEPT 24, 2022 from 1-3pm. This hands-on workshop by artist Melody Loveless is an introduction to Creating Visuals with Hydra, a live coding environment for generating visuals, creating feedback loops, importing media as sources, and techniques for mixed reality using the webcam. Participants are highly recommended to bring their own laptop and install Atom and the atom-hydra plugin. (Limited laptops will be available for participants to share). FREE with Sign Up.

Performance

HARVESTWORKS AT THE 2022 IRCAM – NYU FORUM. The Fall 2022 IRCAM Forum will be held at New York University (NYU) and hosted by the NYU Music Technology and Music Theory & Composition programs from September 30 to October 3, 2022. Peter Traver, Kamari Carter, Hanae Azuma and Trevor Van de Velde will receive Workspace Residencies and show their work during the Forum.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 1 @3:30pm – performance by Workspace Resident Hanae Azuma

SUNDAY OCTOBER 2 @1pm – fellow resident Kamari Carter will perform Echolocation, an immersive city soundscape.

FREE and open to the public.

LOCATION: The Harvestworks Art and Technology Program Building 10a, Nolan Park, Governors Island.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 8, 2022 @3:30pm. EMKVLT Invocation, a performance by Jess Rowland, Margaret Schedel and Sofy Yuditskaya. Using a spatialized four channel system, the performers will invoke the electromagnetic spirits which dwell on the island. Feedback and electrical coils will build a sonic space for all. FREE. Outdoors.

EXHIBITION

FLUID: AN ART AND TECH EXHIBITION

AUGUST 27 – OCTOBER 30, 2022. FLUID – An Art and Tech Exhibition. Major new media artworks by Kristin Lucas and Eva Davidova (New York State Council on the Arts – New Technology awardees) and Viv Corringham, Su Hyum Nam, and Allison Berkoy (Harvestworks Artists in Residence). 3D sound, web-VR and audience participatory immersive installations.

Location: The Harvestworks Art and Technology Program on Governors Island. Building 10a, Nolan Park, Governors Island. Open to the public on weekends 11am – 5pm.

… and the Ear Hut

The Ear Hut + Listen Ahead, a listening station created by Miya Masaoka. On the river’s edge at Building 12, visit the Ear Hut, a contemplative space and listening experience featuring a new composition by acclaimed sound artist Stephen Vitiello. Experience the mix of sounds from the outside soundscape to the embedded composition coming through the Ear-Dows. Weekends 11-5pm.

At our Manhattan Studio

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 30, 2022 @5pm. Join composer Leon Gruenbaum and Tyler Skoglund from Eventide for a preview and hands-on session with the new MISHA! FREE. Location: 596 Broadway, Suite 602, New York, NY, 10012

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2022, 9:30am – 6:30 PST. Art and Cognitive Activism, a symposium organized by Warren Neidich in collaboration with UCLA Art Sci center, The Getty Research Center, The Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art and the Museum of Neon Art. The conference endeavors to describe the role of art and artists in cognitive capitalism in which the brain and mind are the new factories of the 21st century.
