The dailybell project is an aspirational project based on the premise that the rotation of the Earth is an inarguable fact, something we can all agree on.
Brenda Hutchinson and dailybell joins Make Music NY to celebrate the Summer Solstice this year on the 8:17 PM East River Ferry from DUMBO to Wall Street/ Pier 11. Arrive early to receive your complimentary bells before boarding the Ferry and celebrate the Solstice with a lovely sprinkling of bells as we cross the East River together.

Something as inarguable as the movement of the earth can be used as a point of unity and awareness among large groups of people who might otherwise find it impossible to agree.
The rising and setting of the sun provide two opportunities for a shared acknowledgement of our basic connection to one another and to the natural environment. Now an international community, the dailybell began on New Year’s eve Dec, 31 2007 with the commitment to an ongoing, socially engaged project dedicated to the observation of the sun every time it crossed the horizon and to the sharing of the awareness of that moment with others by ringing a bell (or many bells together).
This is an invitation to celebrate the Solstice and everyday by pausing with the rising and/or setting sun to reflect and to participate in this possibility.
• BIOS
Brenda Hutchinson is a composer and sound artist. Through her work with large-scale experiments in socially based improvisations and interactions, Brenda has developed a body of work based on a perspective about interacting with the public and non-artists through personal, reciprocal engagement with listening and sounding.
She is the recipient of the Gracie Allen Award from American Women in Radio and Television and has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Lila Wallace, McKnight Foundation, NY State Council on the Arts and Meet the Composer among others. She has been an artist in residence at San Quentin Prison, Headlands Center for the Arts, Harvestworks, Exploratorium, Villa Montalvo, Ucross and Djerassi.
