[Mar 1] Mental Fabrications: Solid Projections of a Cognitive Aedicula

Mental Fabrications is an experimental Architectural tooling exhibit, that tries to explore the digital realm as a tool which can generate physical models textures, and surfaces. This exhibit is a scaled version of concepts with a greater application. The intended finality is that of interior surfaces, and building facades becoming reactionary, responsive and dynamic with the occupants and their programmatic usage. The collateral outcome is that of aesthetic sculptural models. Continue reading

[Feb 18] Nature and Numbers in Music

Partnering with Composers Now Festival, Harvestworks presents a “behind the scenes” look at how algorithmic systems and data inspire and shape new music by these contemporary sound art and experimental music composers. It will feature presentations by Liz Phillips with Butoh Dancer Mariko Endo Reynolds, plus Tom Hamilton, followed by a panel discussion. Continue reading

2014 Sponsored Projects

Commissioned Works/Special Projects is our program offering financial and administrative assistance to individual artists. We act as a fiscal agent for those artists applying for grants from federal and state programs and private foundations. Through this program we help develop collaborative projects between artists and assist with the presentation of their work. In 2014, we have sponsored the following projects. Continue reading

[Jan 25 – Feb 9] Online Class: Drawing the Third Dimension

In this two-week online workshop we will explore MaxMSP Jitter’s OpenGL framework as a tool for 3D video production. We will also use Blender (a free and open source 3D modeling software) to sculpt our own object models and work with them further in Jitter. Participants will leave equipped with an understanding of video manipulation using OpenGL and a trove of tools and re-usable code to create their own Navigable 3D Environments or Custom Video Software. Continue reading

[Jan 25/26] Wearables – Soft control for your visual & sonic arts

This workshop will serve as an introduction to soft circuits, to learn how to translate your circuits into wearable projects and create your own soft controllers for visuals or audio. Soft circuits, or electronic textiles, are electrical circuits created using flexible conductive materials such as conductive threads and fabrics altogether with discrete electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors or transistors. We will provide basic knowledge in those materials, how to work with them and embed them into a wearable piece and possible applications to let the users explore new ways of electronics and design, using Processing as a software. Continue reading

[Jan 18/19] Projection Mapping 1.0 For Beginners

Projection Mapping is a technique for manipulating video to create illusions of deconstruction and redefinition of physical shapes, by moving away from traditional flat projection surfaces. This workshop serves as a comprehensive introduction to methods for creating projection mapping for beginners. Students will learn how to make animation using Modul8, and how to map the three-dimensional surface using Madmapper. Continue reading
