[Oct 19] No/Nu by GH Hovagimyan

GH Hovagimyan will do a Post Punk sound performance with guitar, looper and effects
pedals in Raphaele Shirley’s light installation work. His use of electric guitar is a symbol
of American culture.the It must be remarked that GH was part of the original late 1970’s
No Wave music scene in New York City. The piece is an outgrowth of the collaborative
work called 3by3by3 with Raphaele Shirley and Rhys Chatham.

LOCATION: Elements! in Art and Tech exhibition

Harvestworks Art and Technology Program Building 10a, Nolan Park Governors Island

Date: Saturday October 19, 2024

Time: 2:45 pm

All events are free.

No/Nu is a hybrid performance work. The performance involves GH improvising over previously recorded guitar loops This was inspired by Rhys Chatham’s use of looper and special effects pedals for the collaborative piece 3by3by3 that also featured Raphaele Shirley’s light sculptures. Indeed Rhys gave GH the guitar used in the piece and encouraged him to play with it. GH also uses Mac’s experimental voice modeling tool to have his synthesized voice sing while he accompanies on guitar.
