Misha is an innovative Eurorack instrument/sequencer that utilizes a unique, interval-based approach to playing and creating melodies. It’s designed to be played like a keyboard instrument and yet it makes music in a way unlike any instrument before it. In addition to playing it live, you can also record sequences that can be modified in a multitude of ways, allowing for new paths of spontaneous creativity.

When Leon Gruenbaum moved to New York in 1988, his interest in “melodic contours” in jazz and bebop led him to the idea of the idea of the Samchillian, an interval-based keyboard controller, for which he received a patent. He subsequently began recording and performing on it worldwide with such artists as Vernon Reid, James Blood Ulmer, Burnt Sugar and many others.  In recent years, this invention was brought to Eventide and made into a Eurorack device, encompassing many of the features of Samchillian, but also adding some new ones, including automation and manipulation of tone row patterns, the ability to play from a standard MIDI controller, and a comprehensive array of user-definable functions.

Leon Gruenbaum will demonstrate and perform with Misha. Eventide Product Specialist, Tyler Skoglund, will also be present with additional Misha setups for the audience to get involved with trying Misha. All guests are encouraged to play Misha, no musical training or background is required.

Quotes:

 – Loopop: “…an entirely original improvisation and generative sequencing module…”
– Joe Waltz: “Make music in spite of yourself”
– Laurie Spiegel: “Misha is a cousin of Music Mouse but way younger and newer, still a puppy and full of potential. It thinks in musical intervals and travels around on paths made of musical scales. It’s definitely a disruptor of musical habits.”
